Students are especially accessible through drama, eager to be guided and inspired to grow beyond themselves into the character they embody. By bringing music, dance, stage sets, and costumes into the production, students experience a working together of the arts that enhances all aspects involved and often makes drama into some of the most memorable and transformative experiences of their school life.

Venice Little Theatre
announces education partnership with
Epiphany Cathedral School
Sixth and seventh grade students from Epiphany Cathedral School in Venice will be performing on the MainStage of Venice Little Theatre at 11:00 a.m. on May 13, 2006. The performance is free and open to the public.
Their program is titled "Gate of Imagination" and is the product of a partnership formed this year between the school and the theatre. Students attend a daily class at VLT during the school year, taught by Brad Wages, a VLT actor, director and choreographer. The classes comprise the students’ theatre arts credit.
The program began in March of this year. Beginning in the fall, Epiphany students will attend classes at VLT for the full academic year.
Sandy Davisson, VLT’s Director of Outreach and Education says that this partnership is a "perfect fit for our outreach goals. We were already reaching over 8000 students in the county with performance outreach. We’ve always wanted to bring more of them right to the theatre as part of their school experience."
Irene Lynch, Principal of Epiphany Cathedral School states; "I am thrilled with the new partnership of Venice Little Theatre and Epiphany Cathedral School! This unique opportunity offers our students a variety of educational experiences that integrates the arts with leadership skills. Our students will be immersed in play writing, acting, singing, dancing, choreography and technical theater".
Guidance Counselor David Cyphert says; "I am excited about our new partnership with Venice Little Theatre as Mrs. Lynch our Principal and the students are. When so many schools today are cutting back on athletics, music and performing arts, Mrs. Lynch and Epiphany Cathedral School are finding resources to offer more of these programs."
The multidisciplinary program designed by VLT and Epiphany is designed to satisfy students of all ability levels who share in a love for the performing arts. The discipline of a performing arts program will provide effective techniques and skills that will carry over to student’s social and academic development.

Dramatic Arts education is an important means of stimulating CREATIVITY IN PROBLEM SOLVING. It can CHALLENGE STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS about their world and about themselves. Dramatic exploration can provide students with an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and dreams that they might not otherwise have means to express. A student can, if only for a few moments, BECOME ANOTHER, explore a new role, try out and experiment with various personal choices and solutions to very real problems-problems from their own life, or problems faced by characters in literature or historical figures. This can happen in a SAFE ATMOSPHERE, where actions and consequences can be examined, discussed, and in a very real sense EXPERIENCED without the dangers and pitfalls that such experimentation would obviously lead to in the "REAL" world.
This is perhaps the most important reason for Dramatic Arts in schools.

Epiphany students to perform
at Venice Little Theatre
Students from Epiphany Cathedral School in Venice will be performing on the MainStage of Venice Little Theatre at 2:00 p.m. on April 21, 2007. The performance is free and open to the public.
The beginning theatre students will perform excerpts from How to Eat Like a Child.
Intermediate students will perform sections of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
The production is the product of a partnership formed last year between ECS and VLT. Students attend a daily class at the theatre during the school year, taught by VLT’s principal teacher, Brad Wages, who is himself a notable actor, director and choreographer. These classes then comprise the students’ theatre arts credits for the year.
From now on, and beginning each fall, Epiphany students will attend classes at VLT for the full academic year.
Wages says, "What a joy it is to work with these kids from ECS. This is our second year collaborating with them. We actually act as the Drama Department for the school. I note that the returning students already show more focus and dedication to the class and the overall project."
He added: "The eighth graders have been busy rehearsing for their production, which is a fully costumed show, and the seventh graders are thrilled that they’ll be making their stage debuts. By next year of course, they’ll be the veterans. "
The multidisciplinary program was designed by VLT and Epiphany to satisfy students of all ability levels who share in a love for the performing arts. Academics and theatricians alike know that a performing arts program provides students with skills that carry over to social and academic development.
Sandy Davisson, VLT’s Director of Outreach and Education says that this partnership is a perfect fit for the theatre’s outreach goals. "We were already reaching over 8000 students in the county with performance outreach and we’ve always wanted to bring more of them right to the theatre as part of their school experience."
Irene Lynch, Principal of Epiphany Cathedral School says "Epiphany Cathedral School is blessed to have such a wonderful partnership with Venice Little Theatre. Our students have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of theatre under the direction of the talented and professional staff at Venice Little Theatre. ECS students not only receive an outstanding educational experience, but they also receive hands-on instruction in set design, stage productions, costumes, lighting, and stage presentation. We look forward to offering a performing arts program at ECS for many years thanks to Venice Little Theatre!"
